Alternate Current Radio presents Boiler Room: Madhouse Recap — Missed Icebreakers & Recent Insanity.
After returning from Fire in the Mountains in Montana, Hesher reconvenes the Boiler Room with Ruckus, Spore, Mark Anderson and Mystical Pharaoh for a long-overdue clearing of the infamous Discord Ice Breaker Suggestion room.
The crew begins with mutant raccoons roaming Seattle and rescue robots built from scuba-equipped cockroaches before plunging down a much deeper rabbit hole involving AI data centers, energy consumption, surveillance infrastructure and technological dependency.
From there, it’s back into the Madhouse: extreme happiness sending someone to the hospital, betting on weddings, Kalshi and Polymarket, political corruption, alleged nuclear monster sharks, fried-chicken-flavored Oreos, a student pilot suddenly left alone in the cockpit, Viagra at the World Cup, brain parasites, Mexican Batman, begging robots, diaper fraud and the bizarre world of “electrosex.”
The plan was eventually to get to the serious news.
The Madhouse had other ideas.

RETURNING FROM MONTANA — FIRE IN THE MOUNTAINS

Boiler Room returns after a short break with Hesher describing his trip to Fire in the Mountains at Red Eagle Campground on Blackfeet Nation land. He emphasizes the lack of cell service and internet, the physical setting, the Blackfeet opening ceremony, communal meals, new friendships and performances including Agalloch, Amigo the Devil, Abbath, Enslaved and Neurosis. The festival’s larger purpose also comes up: supporting suicide-prevention efforts through the Firekeeper Alliance, with a dry-festival policy, workshops centered on healing and creativity, and locally rooted vendors. Hesher characterizes the trip as much more than simply attending a metal festival.

Back in Texas, Hesher explains that he and Ruckus spent much of the following week working on Alternate Current Radio instead of immediately restarting the show. Ruckus says the previously troubled site is working well again and that improving the mobile experience is the next phase. The story immediately becomes a discussion about viral distractions, artificial amplification and the modern tendency to turn unusual animals into memes and political content.

The next headline concerns researchers developing flexible diving equipment for cyborg cockroaches intended for search-and-rescue work in flooded or inaccessible spaces. The panel quickly asks the questions the headline invites: Why not use tiny artificial drones? How are the insects controlled? What information can they transmit? And if the technology can perform reconnaissance in disaster zones, what other surveillance or military applications might follow? The conversation wanders through nanotechnology, swarm systems, weather modification, insect farming and the inevitable prospect of weaponized scuba roaches.
HESHER: “Can they not make little tiny drones the same size and not have to turn insects into cyborgs?”
CAN TOO MUCH HAPPINESS HURT YOUR HEART?

A case report about a woman experiencing a rare heart condition after an intensely happy event sends the room into a discussion about “happy heart syndrome,” stress responses and whether happiness can meaningfully be measured in the first place. The panel treats the medical oddity with the expected Boiler Room skepticism and humor, while also distinguishing a rare physiological response from the simplistic headline that someone can literally be “too happy.”
MARK ANDERSON: “I would wonder how they can objectively, if they can objectively measure joy.”
FROM BILDERBERG TO THE AI DATA-CENTER WORLD

THE STUDENT PILOT LEFT ALONE IN THE SKY

The tone darkens with a report from Argentina involving a 22-year-old student pilot whose instructor allegedly jumped from the aircraft during a training flight, leaving her to land the plane alone. The panel reacts to the shock of the story, the student’s ability to land safely and the unknowable circumstances that could lead an instructor to such an act. As usual, the conversation also branches into skepticism about incomplete early reporting and the strangeness of coinciding aviation stories.

VIAGRA AT THE WORLD CUP

The story produces exactly the sort of headline collision the Ice Breaker room exists to collect: elite sport, anti-doping rules, altitude physiology and Viagra all occupying the same news cycle.
BRAIN PARASITES, MEXICAN BATMAN & THE FINAL WTF SPRINT

With time running out, the crew accelerates through the remaining backlog: a traveler who reportedly ended up with 38 parasites in his brain, a vigilante dubbed “Mexican Batman” accused of taping men to lamp posts, a robot photographed begging for money, a man who faked Down syndrome in order to have caregivers change his diapers, and finally an “electrosex” warning story. The rapid-fire sequence becomes a fitting demonstration of why the planned serious-news segment never really arrives: the Ice Breaker pile is simply too deep.
THE INSANITY THEY DIDN’T GET TO

Near the end, Hesher looks at the untouched “Recent Insanity” portion of the rundown — including the In-N-Out shooting, Netanyahu visiting Tesla, the Spokane fire, cyberattacks on water infrastructure and the Trump/disarmament story — and effectively concedes that the Ice Breakers have consumed the broadcast. Those subjects are mentioned as material left on the board rather than treated as developed segments.
